Pramila Jayapal stands with our campaignMay 7, 2020

When Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal called me to tell me she was endorsing our campaign, it was an emotional moment for me. To say I am humbled is an understatement.

Pramila’s voice is one of the most progressive and bold in Congress, and her commitment to equity and inclusivity is unwavering. She is at the forefront of the fights for Medicare for All, racial justice, immigration, and the environment. I am beyond proud that she is our leader in Washington, DC.

“Liz is the progressive champion we need in the legislature to protect workers, expand health care coverage, and rebuild our economy in a way that puts workers and families first. I enthusiastically endorse Liz Berry for State Representative and ask that you join me in supporting her campaign.

– Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal

Now more than ever, leadership matters. We require our elected leaders to demonstrate profound grit and determination. There is no more effective and principled leader than Pramila Jayapal, and I know she will be at the forefront of the fight to ensure that our country’s recovery from COVID-19 puts workers and families first.

It is an honor that she believes I will be an effective and principled leader in Olympia, and that I – like her – will ensure our state’s recovery puts workers and families first.

Thank you for your faith in our campaign, Congresswoman Jayapal. I won’t let you down.

The Proudest Moment of Our CampaignApril 24, 2020

It is hard to find hope and optimism when every day we hear another story about the devastating impacts of COVID-19. The unemployment rate in our state is expected to hit 15% by the end of the month. One million of our friends and family are facing financial uncertainty. My heart breaks for those families, and I count my blessings every day.

But we also experience moments of hope and witness selfless acts from the undisputed heroes of the pandemic. These hardworking superstars work around the clock to make sure we have food on our tables and take care of our state’s most vulnerable populations.

Small gestures in a time of global needApril 1, 2020

Yesterday I gave blood. It was a small contribution in a moment of global need.

But there is nothing I could do right now that compares to the vital and lifesaving role of our healthcare workers on the frontlines. They are my heroes. Will you join me in sending a note of appreciation to them?

Every day the experts increase their prediction for infection and fatality. And everyday hospital custodians, nurses, nursing assistants, and other healthcare workers put themselves at risk to care for those who are suffering.

I am humbled and profoundly honored that during this global pandemic, our campaign has earned the sole labor endorsements of SEIU 1199NW, SEIU 925, and the Washington State Nurses Association. These organizations collectively represent more healthcare, caregiver, and childcare workers in our state than any other organization.

A few ways we can helpMarch 17, 2020

Like many of you, I am feeling overwhelmed and saddened by the increasingly devastating effects of COVID-19 in our community. I have been following the news and monitoring the announcements made by our local, state and federal governments about how to keep my family, friends and neighbors safe.

I have also been thinking about what I can do to help, and I wanted to share with you a few small ways I am hoping to make a positive impact during this difficult time.

This morning, I made a contribution to the Seattle Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund which coordinates rapidly deploying resources to community-based organizations on the frontlines of the outbreak in the Puget Sound region. If you are in a financially secure situation and can make a donation to a non-profit fund supporting those most impacted, please do so.

As a lifelong blood donor, I also scheduled a time to donate blood as there is currently a severe blood shortage nationwide. If you can safely reach a donation facility, please schedule an appointment to give blood today. In the Puget Sound region contact Bloodworks NW. Outside of this region contact the Red Cross to find a donation location near you.

Please stay safe and look out for each other. We are all in this together.

Why I’m Endorsing Liz BerryJanuary 22, 2020

by Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib

Today, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m endorsing Liz Berry for the State House of Representatives! I’ve known and worked with Liz for a decade. And I know her to be a passionate advocate for our progressive priorities: economic justice, environmental protection, and gun safety.

As the executive director of the Washington State Association for Justice, Liz has stood up for the people who wouldn’t otherwise have a voice in our system.

As the president of the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington, she was a champion for creating new political pathways for women by recruiting, training, and electing more women to public office.

As the former legislative director to Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, Liz has demonstrated that she is not afraid to take on the powerful gun lobby to save lives in our community.

What a week. And a big announcement!January 16, 2020

Wow!

It has been just over a week since we launched my campaign for the State House, and I am humbled by the support and generosity I have received from friends near and far. Thank you.

Yesterday, I was thrilled to receive the endorsement of King County Executive Dow Constantine. He said:

“I’m proud to endorse Liz Berry for state representative because she’ll fight for more transit and to reduce the impact of climate change – two issues which I care about deeply. She also will work to reform our regressive tax code and make sure our economy works for everyoneJoin me in supporting Liz Berry for State Representative.”

After eight days on the campaign trail, I am still buzzing with excitement and anticipation, and as I look toward the coming months, I know there is a lot of hard work ahead. But with your support and the support of leaders like Dow ConstantineSeattle City Councilmembers Lorena Gonzalez, Debora Juarez, Tammy Morales, and Teresa MosquedaState Senator Rebecca Saldaña; and State Representative Nicole Macri, I know we can win!

As State Representative, I will proudly advocate for working families, affordable childcare, access to quality public education, and to preserve the stunning landscape of our state from the devastating effects of climate change.

Why I am running for State HouseJanuary 13, 2020

I wanted to make sure you saw the exciting news: last week I launched my campaign for the State House of Representatives in the 36th Legislative District!

The 36th Legislative District is one of the most progressive, dynamic and thoughtful communities in our state. But affordability issues are crushing our region and our future. Working families are struggling to pay for quality childcare and access a decent public education. And we must act now to protect our beautiful landscape from the devastating effects of climate change.

As a working mom, nonprofit executive director, and someone who has been a champion for women in leadership my entire career, I understand the impact these issues are having on people in our community.

I am a proven progressive leader who knows how to get things done.

And that’s why I am running for State House.

As the executive director of the Washington State Association for Justice, I fight to protect the rights of working people who are up against Big Pharma, Big Insurance, and unscrupulous corporations.

As the president of the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington, I was a champion for creating pathways for women to have a seat at the table by recruiting, training, and electing more women to public office. I am proud that we built a mission to recruit more women of color to run.

As the former legislative director to Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, I’m not afraid to take on the powerful gun lobby to tackle gun violence in our community.

I’ve spent most of my career fighting to right wrongs or helping progressive champions get elected to make big changes.

I know how to fight and win.

I am excited and proud to be embarking on this journey. Thank you for being a part of it.

Onward!
